    Well From our get together on August 26th the Master
El Blossman concluded that John needed the bands on his trans Adjusted.

 

Okay No Problemo..... Wrong We have no idea how to do it and Even
though he has the chassis manual what if we do somthing wrong and
completely screw up the trans.



Thats Bad News Bears, so from yoose guys personal experience whats the
best way to go about this. We can't let this go on too long, and the
blossman is very busy so whats our best bet?

Read Re-read and completely understand.
 
P  It's really simple.  The worst case is you may have to go back in and re-adjust.
 
Loosen the locking nut on the band.  Turn it in with your fingers until it stops.  Take a wrench and tweak it tight.  I mean just a NUDGE!  Not a MOBBY Nudge, 12 feet of leverage.  Just snug it up.
 
Once snug, note the position of the wrench and back the adjuster screw out the specified number of turns.  Hold the adjuster in place and tighten the locking nut.
 
It's OK if it's an 1/8 to a 1/4 tight.
 
Follow the same proceedure on the outside band

Yes, it is easy.  The manuals do call for specific torque, but most people do not have a torque wrench in inch pounds.  Be sure to back it off the exact number the book says.

  So I loosen the nut untill i cant turn it with my fingers and
give it a small tweek to snug it up. Then losent the adjuster screw the
specified number of turns hold the adjuster and tighten the locking
nut.

   Question, Do i have to re tighten the adjuster screw?

Its been a while since I've done it but corrupt me if I'm wrong, the adjusting screw has a square head on it and the lock nut looks like a regular nut.
Loosen the lock nut then turn the square head bolt in with your fingers till it stops then NUDGE it snug. then tighten the lock nut (the regular looking nut)

You don't want to loosen the adjusting bolt (square headed one) P that will Unadjust the bands!!!! That will be bad.

Oh you're a loose nut OK
 
No
You loosen the nut, turn the adjuster all the way in until snug.  Then you back out the adjuster the specified # of turns, THEN tighten the loose nut.

  Alright I'll just keep my jump suit pad and pen in the car
untill your ready. Like I said I don't want to be responsible for
messing up the Trans due to lack of experience. Thats out of my realm.
By that point Steve I'll have the Universal done, No I havent done it
yet things are a little hecktick with the start of the semester it will
be done soon.

Ok I gotcha now!!! Like I said its been a while since I did any band adjusting and that was on a 904 in my Duster. It was at school and I had an inch pound torque wrench!!!

Inch by Inch the Monster gets his car done.  When are you going to pull the dash apart?
 
How's the Monster doing on gass mileage anyway?  I haven't heard him complaining.
 
Wow.  The last things left are the heater controls, lower bushings, front shocks and the exhaust.  I can rebuild my spare control arms so we can just put them in.  It won't effect the alighment.  If anythign, it will bring it back closer to spec.  Get those wheels straight again and it will get another 1/2 mile per gallon.

holding steady at around 10 mpg city/highway combined... i can deal with that. beats the hell outa 6-8 i was getting...
