Heater core replacement.
« on: July 15, 2008, 12:18:00 PM »

Well the heater core is leaking pretty bad in the 66' 300. I discovered this when I went out in the garage this afternoon to retrieve the cell phone the wife got me two weeks ago. Guess where it was? On the passenger side front floor where I left it. Don't have to worry about that thing anymore.

Anyway, i'm sure I can handle the job but would like to know what i'm getting into. I don't have a factory service manual so does anyone have any tip's or advice on this job? Anybody been there and done that?

   BTW, Car is A/C too...

Bad news,Jimmy, the C body heater core and evaporator is a two-in-one unit.
Super hard and pricey if you can find one.
The job entails removing the dash. Not fun,IMO.
When my heater core did the same,my car turned into a fair weather car after I looped the heater hoses at the motor.

Oh Man are they.  Thanks Lea, you beat me.

And they are an odd thickness so they are not easily recored.  However, the most common problem with them is the tubs rot out.  They can be replaced by a good shop.  Actually, I've had two repaired successfully in the tubes and in the tanks.  It's pot luck, but you can pull the core and take it to the shop.

Getting it out isn't too bad,  Glove box comes out and I believe the center ducts.

Hope this helps you

Well now, that's just charming now isn't it? Guess the hoses are gettin' looped at the firewall (keep it lookin like it's still hooked up) and tackle that this winter. I will be removing the interior to replace the carpet's and freshen up the panel's anyway, just as well yank the dash and do it all at once, ay bie'???

Yeah we don't give a rip if the heater doesn't work, just roll up the windows.....but if our A/C goes out, whoaaaaa!   we get those compressors fixed quickly.......otherwise, the steering wheel is so hot, you can't hold on to it, and yer seats start to melt.....
