How to restore emblems grille inserts etc?
« Reply #15 on: May 21, 2008, 03:38:54 PM »

I redid the side and rear "NewYorker" emblems from my '66 back in the day.  I sprayed the whole piece (removed from the car...) with semi-gloss black spray paint.  The high edges were a shiny gold again after a quick wipe across a double-folded paper towel moistened with mineral spirits.

Matt,I got someclothes pins full of fresh paint fer your nose!!! LOL!!
Anyways..For the grille.
How this...
can turn into this...
Grilles require more work.
Do one color at  time and use good quality paint tape that will not pull off paint. .
One trick is to pull off the tape as soon as you are done painting.Leaving the tape on overnight will guarantee it will peel off the paint.
I prefer letting the paint dry 24 hours before I tape it up for the other color.
The Mopar Argent silver wheel paint can be used as the silver in the grille.Any semi-gloss rattle can is good for the black parts.
Any overspray on the chrome can be wiped off when wet or use mineral spirits with a cloth if the paint is dry..
I spray from the back of the grille as well for better coverage and appearance.

HOLY BEJESUS!!!

Just looked at Emblemagic's web site to see how much it would cost to restore the two sail panel 300 emblems for my 64. $225.00 each! OUCH! Looks like I'll be riding around with some "faded" emblems!

I just painted the panel that holds the pushbuttons for the trans and the heater A/C panel. Both have a chrome trim ring and chrome lettering. I sprayed the panels, waited about 2 minutes then dipped a cotton swab in some laquer thinner, squeezed out most of the thinner, and rubbed it over the trim and lettering. Paint came right off and the trim and lettering look fine.
