8 3/4 side axle bearings/seals
« on: May 12, 2008, 03:24:50 PM »

Whats the quick and easy way to remove the flange and bearing so I can repack it and replace the outer seal? I replaced the inner some 5 years back but not the outer.

May need to replace the bearings too. Ill give them the once over when they are off. They feel good and dont make noise but who knows...

May as well replace them or pack them the way they are.  Get a grease needle and some of that Red Grease in a tube and start pumping.  Outer seal is nothing more than a dust shield.

Those bearings are pressed on and not serviceable other than described above.  If they are noisey, replace them.  If not, the inner seal is the important one.  Repack and reinstall.

Sounds good! Actually thats what I wanted to hear anyway. I think the grease that will pass the outer dust seal will be minimal if I dont get carried away with it, ay bie...

The bearings on the axle in the wagon were bone dry when I swapped pumpkins...so I repacked them as described and put them back in.
