Hello all.
« on: May 01, 2008, 09:43:51 AM »

As you see I'm a new member here.  I have a 65 300 non letter 2dr hard top with a 383.  Lots of questions and hope to learn more from everyone here.  Foun this site from another site member asking me to join.

Two questions to get the ball rolling.

On my Chrysler the engine compartment it white.  At all the car shows it always appears this is black on mopar cars.   Do I have something odd.  What triggered this was looking for a battery try (no luck finding one) they are all in "correct" black.

I also need a new washer bottle and found them.  The car is original and all matching numbers so I want to keep as authentic as possible.  The bottles come in white and yellow for the aged look.  What is best for showing car or is it just what I would like with no effect on judging.

Just two of many many questions to come.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to talking with everyone here.

Hey there!

Welcome!!!!

I also have a 65 300.  But have been into Mopar for almost 50 years.

The 63 to 68 was the body color in the engine compartment with some areas sprayed in a flat black.  69 to the 80's had black fender wells unless it was an A or B Body.  Not sure on the M.
The fire wall and fender wells are all body color, as the top of the Rad support and under the hood.  May I suggest you post a couple of pictures of the engine compartment so we can see what you have?  If I read this right, your body is a different color than the rest of the car?

I would go with the yellowed one if it's not rediculas in cost. . .

Fire away with the questions. . .   There's too many of us around who either have the experience, resources, or can look at one for you. POLARACO2008-05-01 15:34:46

WELCOME TO FINS!

All of the slab-year C's should have body-colored engine compartments, at least my three did and all of the other ones I have seen are the same way.  Battery trays black.

Thanks for the welcome.
Yes the engine compartment matches the outside.  What's left of the battery tray is also same color.  I guess I'll have to hope to find one which fits my car and paint it.

The best references you can use are unrestored or survivor cars.
For example,my friend Dennis's rare1965 Windsor 'vert.Just maintained over the years-never repainted, motor never been pulled apart.Never winter driven.Note being a built for Canada car it has a red painted 383.
Body color engine bay,and go with the yellowed bottle..The brandy new white bottle would be more for a total full-blown resto car.

You can never take enough pics of an original unrestored car.

Thanks.  Mine is 383 and blue. Car is white or cream color with bronze roof.  Black carpet and dash.  Seats and head liner are gold with basket inlay.  Dash is gold as well.  Never been pulled apart and all original.  I have got to figure out how to get some pics on here to share.  Very nice pics you have and what a ride.Chrysler3002008-05-02 11:07:39
