Find a figure that you would be crazy NOT to buy it at and that's what you will settle not a penny more for.
That way, if you get it, you'll feel you stole it and if you don't get it you'll have no guilt.

I truely believe with some crafty negotiation, he'll go as low as a grand which I would say is a good buy for you.

Well I am going to give it a whirl at 800.  If he doesn't take it. . . . Oh Well!  I didn't need it then.
 
The guy from Drydock who looked at it for me siad he probably wouldn't take 800 for it.  He is trying to break even.
 
Not as much work on this as the VOAB needed. . .  At least I don't need to put whole 1/4s on it.

ur friend that came and looked at the car for you said that if he knows you you will pull the engine and put a big block in it,so i will make u this offer i will pull the engine and keep the side pipe and sell the rest of the car for 700 its gota b worth that cuz two guys are asking me if i will part the car out one offered me 600 for all the chrome trim and the other offered 300 for the pedal assembly thats all the beter i can do.Derek

Yep..breaking even is what he wants to do
300 is market value for the pedals.
Chrome must be nice if he was actually offered 600.
So,yeah go for it.What you do not keep can alwys be sold since the 68 Fury is a popular model still.
