Back From the Sand Blast Shop

Here's the results of my trip to the sand blaster's. Pretty self-explanatory... I told them that I needed all of the paint removed from the body, including the engine bay and inside the trunk. Also had them do the welds in the new floorpan, the rust in the trunk, and the rust behind the rear wheel wells. However, I had them leave the paint under the hood and the deck lid. The hood I will prep on my own, and the deck lid I left because it was essentially original paint, and I wanted to compare the original to the new PPG/Deltron I just had mixed up for it. A string of before & after photos follow...

7:00 AM when I dropped the car off...

...and at 3:00 PM when I picked it up.

I had no idea that there was any Bondo in the driver door. Probably part of the repair that required replacing the fender...

This is the quarter panel that I thought was wasted. Turns out to have only a very thin layer of Bondo and a string of holes that were used to pull the quarter out during the repair process. I think this is something that my friend Randy can fix, but I won't know until he sees it. Much better news than I had expected! The large holes in front of and behind the wheel well are areas that had rust and were cut out. All loose scale was blasted down to clean metal.

Nice, clean hood, no hail damage.

Passenger side inner fender, B & A...

Driver side inner fender and battery tray area...

All this and 50 pounds of used sand in every nook and cranny, for only $487.13!
