VIN Data

This car came with no build sheet anywhere in the car. I should say that the build sheet it did come with was for a DIFFERENT 1967 Barracuda, 273-2bbl V-8, 4-speed fastback. Looks like the driver's seat wore out some time ago, and the PO found a good replacement in the salvage yard. I have tried my best to decode the fender tag and VIN plate, but I have had limited luck finding comprehensive data (SEE UPDATE BELOW). It seems that several other people out there with 1967 cars are in the same shape. If you have any additional information about VIN codes or fender tag codes, please e-mail me at claird@ev1.net .

The fender tag is read from left to right, bottom to top. The first line is unlike the others in that it has no letters associated with the numbers to form the codes. The other lines use a combination of two lines to form the equipment codes. Follow along and it will make sense pretty quickly:

S (blank) - NO STRIPES (SPORT STRIPE IS SALES CODE 294)

A-G, J-L, N-Q, T-W, and Z (blank) - no options here. When I learn what these codes mean, I'll include them below as well.

M2 -? WHEEL OPENING MOULDINGS?

R1 - SALES CODE 421, MUSIC MASTER AM RADIO

S1 - SALES CODE 411, A/C WITH HEATER

X1 - SALES CODE 521, TINTED GLASS, ALL WINDOWS

Y2 - SALES CODE 302, WHITE CONVERTIBLE TOP

a6 - SALES CODE 486, CONSOLE

b4 -BUCKET SEATS

No further options shown on the VIN tag. Only the Build Sheet can tell more of the story.
