The Rusty Floorpan

The floorboards from the '68 Barracuda Coupe parts car were finally removed just after Thanksgiving. That's another job that I will never do again. Trust me, it's worth paying someone else to do it. There were exactly 1,485,372 spot welds that needed to be drilled out, and if not for having the proper tool, this would've been impossible. The tool is a Unibit, or Christmas Tree, depending on who you talk to. It is a tapered drill bit with a slot cut in it that acts like a self-tapping screw and cuts through sheet metal "like buttah". Start with a 3/16" pilot hole and go to town. It is great, and well worth it's high cost. I used a jig saw to cut across the firewall end of the pan. Again, this job sucks!!!

It's hard to see in this shot, but there are holes all over this thing. I'll probably end up sectioning this pan for the pieces I need, since the floor of my convertible is really pretty solid. It can never be more tight than when it leaves the factory, and I don't want to compromise the structural integrety of an open car.

Well, plans changed. When I delivered the car to my friend for bodywork, we decided that it really needed to have the whole floor done. Take a look at the Rusty Parts...
